About Dummy Book

A dummy book is the sample you approve before committing to a print run. It is bound to the exact size, paper, page count and finish of the real job, usually with blank or partly printed pages, so you can hold it, flip it, and see how it behaves.

People skip this step and it is almost always a false economy. A dummy answers questions a PDF cannot: whether the paper is too thin and the reverse page shows through, whether the spine is thick enough to carry text, whether the cover board feels like the price you are charging, whether a saddle-stitched booklet lies flat or springs shut in the reader's hand.

It is also how publishers and marketing teams get sign-off. A committee that argues for a fortnight about a PDF will approve a physical dummy in one meeting, because everyone is finally looking at the same object.

We produce dummies for annual reports, company profiles, magazines, school year books and product catalogues, in the same house that will run the final job -- so the paper in the dummy is the paper you get, not something similar.

If the run is large enough, the cost of the dummy is worth it for the binding check alone. Tell us the page count, the trim size and the stock, and we will make one.
